One of the stars of General Hospital and former star of All My Children, Cameron Mathison, shared the news that his Doberman Pincher, Red, died after battling cancer since August
Cameron Mathison, best known for playing Drew on General Hospital, announced via Instagram that his dog, Red, died from cancer on Tuesday.
The star posted a collage of photos and videos of his family and their beloved dog. The post was set to the song You’re My Best Friend by Queen.
“He was truly my best buddy and such a huge part of our family. Every day when I came home he would run to our driveway fence and kiss me through the bars before I came through the gate. Every single day,” he added.
The post ended: “So so many great memories… grateful for all of them. I miss you already sweet boy.”
Cameron first announced that his Doberman Pincher was diagnosed with cancer in August. The disease caused the dog’s back legs to be paralyzed. At the time, Cameron said that “with the help of Two Hands Four Paws Foundation, we are doing the best to keep his quality of life the best we can for the time he has left”.
The video showed Cameron, his wife Vanessa, and their two children Lucas and Leila. In the comments of the post, fans and friends shared their condolences for the family.
“Oh, no Cam,” said Alicia Minshew, who was Cameron’s costar on All My Children, “Thinking of you and your family. What a sweet boy he was.”
Rebecca Budig of General Hospital and All My Children fame commented: “Cammy. So sad. Thank God he went peacefully. You said that’s all you wanted for him. I’m so so sorry for you and your family.”
The Young and the Restless’ Melissa Claire Egan said: “Nooooo. Cammy. I am so sorry. Sending you so much love. He’s at the Rainbow Bridge now.”
Fans of the actor shared their support as well. “My heart breaks for all of you,” one fan commented. Another said: “Oh dude I’m so sorry that’s the worst feeling ever and I’ve been there before.”
Before debuting on General Hospital in 2021 as Drew Cain, Cameron played Ryan Lavery on All My Children from 1997 to 2011.
