Daytime was rocked once again on May 25 when former General Hospital star Johnny Wactor (ex-Brando) was shot and killed during the early morning hours. After leaving his bartending job, the actor and a female coworker came upon three men trying to steal parts from his car. Without confrontation, Wactor stepped in front of his friend to shield her and was shot and killed by one of the thieves. Now, his family is speaking out about the horrific and senseless loss…

Wactor’s mother Scarlett and his two brothers Lance and Grant spoke via video call to NBC’s Morgan Chesky for the TODAY show and detailed the described incident above, stating that at first, Wactor thought his car was being towed. When asked how they felt after hearing that his final act in life was to protect someone else, his mom replied, “I use the word hero and am thankful that that person is OK and that when he died, he wasn’t alone.”

And of the man who shot and killed her son over a catalytic converter, Scarlett continued, “This person is evil… I think they are cowards. As a parent, you never expect to bury a child.”

In closing, Chesky’s co-host, Hoda Kotb, asked if Scarlett had mentioned how she and the family are coping with this loss, to which he replied, “In the midst of this incredible grief… she’s been watching her favorite clips of Johnny from General Hospital.”
